The Manufacturing Controls Engineer will provide engineering support for Performance Materials’ specialty membrane and meltblown production. We are seeking a controls engineer to facilitate improvement of overall plant quality through automation and the updating of manufacturing process equipment. This will involve day-to-day troubleshooting as well as project design and implementation.
This hands-on role will encompass the full scope of a change: Identification of the need, aid in design and specification of instrumentation/equipment, coordination of vendors and contractors as needed, help with check-out and start-up, implementation of interlocks and control loops, and follow-up support. In this role you will work closely with Operations and Maintenance personnel, Process Engineers, and outside vendors.
Reporting to the Business Unit Quality Director, this is a new position with high visibility and full of opportunities to make a positive impact very quickly.
• Provide engineering assistance to the Plant Production Team for day-to-day issues and long term needs. • Seek and execute opportunities for process improvement that result in: - Better quality - Better process consistency - Improved efficiency • Automate critical procedures • Design and develop new control strategies • Test, maintain, and modify existing systems and the process needs to change with product mix • Aid in design and implement new or replacement instruments and equipment • Assist Plant and Process engineers with the controls portion of capital projects - Verify instrument and equipment selection is in line with the need - Aid in preparation and interpretation of controls related schematics, drawings, and layouts - Provide training to operators and technicians - Assist in check-out and start-up of new and modified instrumentation and equipment
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing industry • Knowledge of general control disciplines – plant systems listed: - Advanced process control (APC) - Programmable logic controllers (PLC) – Allen-Bradley, Rockwell, Siemens - Human Machine Interface (HMI) – Intellution, Allen Bradley, Automation Direction • Capable of designing control loops, alarms, alerts, interlocks, system reports • Experience with creation or review of loop sheets, instrument configuration, installation, wiring, and Control Systems Programming • Proficient use of computers including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) • Programming ability in Android, Java, HTML5 a plus. • Experience with enterprise systems (such as Oracle) a plus • Able to work in an autonomous environment and capable of prioritizing work to match area needs and company strategy • Able to work across several departments within the company, to anticipate and provide expertise in all manner of data and reporting capability. • Strong technical and functional skills.
